Paint Correction

Have you ever looked at your car and thought.. where did the shine go? Why does my car always look dull? Why can't my car look like I just pulled it off the car lot? Well, there's one simple answer to that. Paint defects. Over time your car is going to get paint defects. Some cars are worse than others, but it's inevitable. Looking at your car while it's in the sun is the best way to see the real condition of your paint. Correcting your paint will make it look even better than when you first got it!

Scratches & Swirl Marks

There are lots of different types of paint defects. Not only scratches and swirl marks. Scratches and swirl marks are just the most commonly seen defects. There's bird droppings that have etched into your clear coat, hard water spots, deep scratches, light scratches.. the list goes on. Here at D Squared we like to do all we can to restore that defect free finish! The only type of paint defect we're unable to get out is a deep scratch. The reason being, when correcting the paint you're taking a very thin layer of the clear coat off. The deep scratches go into the base coat or sometimes even the primer coat of the car which is deeper than clear coat. You will need to go to an actually auto body shop in order to get these fixed.

Paint correction is a two step process for cars with heavy defects. The first of two steps in this process is to compound the car. Compounding is the step that gets rid of any heavy defects and really restores your paint to that brand new look. This isn't the last step, although it works very well in getting rid of defects, it usually leaves behind a hazey finish. The next step removes the haze left behind from compounding or any 'compounding marks'.

On the left is before. On the right is after compounding. As you can see, it's not a mirror finish just yet.

The next step is to apply a finishing polish. This is a polish that still has some 'cut' to it, so if you don't have many defects it will be the go to product for you. The polish has cut to it, but the more you work it in, the more it finishes out and gives you a beautiful, deep, glossy shine. There's nothing better than looking at a car after applying a finishing polish. We like to refer to the finishing stage as 'making the car into a mirror on wheels'. The reflections you get out of this are insane! Paint correction is really how you take your car to the next level.
